MAPA Showcase

North West Regional College (NWRC) will present a music and performing arts showcase on Tuesday 11th June, from 19:00-20:00, in the NWRC Foyle Theatre (Strand Road, Derry~Londonderry).

About MAPA

MAPA is music and performing arts at North West Regional College. MAPA’s greatest strength is its team of lecturers and technicians, who remain active in the music and performing arts industries. For example, Liam Craig is managing Roe (an award winner at Northern Ireland Music Prize 2018) and Michael Poole, an eminent theatre director, runs one of Northern Ireland’s most successful actors’ agency. Three of the current lecturing team have won the Creative & Cultural Skills Tutor of the Year Award.

In the NWRC music and performing arts facilities, recently described by a visiting UK education quality assessor from London as ‘second to none’, the team works collaboratively with a dynamic and imaginative agenda to continually improve the student experience through industry-focused projects, seminars and visits to centres of excellence.

Alumni – Music

Current and former music students include ROE (NI Music Prize winner 2018), Cherym (NI Music Prize nominees 2018), SOAK (Irish Choice Music Prize winner and Mercury Prize nominee), Chris McConaghy (aka Our Krypton Son), Eilidh Patterson and members of various successful band including Connla, Fighting With Wire, PORTS, Balkan Alien Sound, Scenery and the Japanese Popstars.

Other students have gone on to play key roles in the local, national  and international music industry, including Pol Sheerin (owner/manager, PS Audio), Jay Dickson (internationally renowned session musician), Steven Hamilton (owner/manager, UNIT 7 Audio), John Leighton (manager, Bennigans Jazz Club) and Ronan McCullagh (renowned session player and tutor at BIMM, London).
