Freshers Day Fun for Limavady Students
New and returning students from the College's Limavady Campus kicked-off the new academic year in style today during the College's annual fun and informative Freshers Day events. Over 40 exhibitors attended the Main Street Campus to hand out useful and entertaining materials to help students prepare for the year ahead.
The focus of the events was to help the students get organised for their studies in a fun way, and there were also agencies and organisations who provided information on where to get help when academic or personal stresses occur. The PSNI were on hand to advise students how to keep their belongings safe, and for their own personal safety, panic alarms were on offer. Action Cancer, the Health Promotion Agency, Gordon’s Chemist and Medicare attended to ensure the students were up to date on how to stay healthy, and to offer special student discounts and prize draws.
The Electoral Commission offered an on the spot service to provide students with Electoral ID cards and registration to vote, while local leisure centres and gyms provided trial and discount options for getting fit. Hurt, Zest, Contact Youth and the Samaritans were just some of the organizations there to ensure the new students knew where to turn should they need some help later in the year.
Student Finance NI, along with the College’s own Student Services Team, answered queries and assisted students in accessing the range of financial resources available to them, and local businesses including Curtis Opticians and Limavady Printing Company offered to help students to manage their budgets by offering exclusive reductions.
A spokesperson for the College praised the students who took full advantage of the Freshers Days:
“I am delighted to see so many of our students engaging with the local agencies and organisations here. It is wonderful to discover that some have signed up to volunteer for local charities, as well the range of college clubs and societies, and have taken on board the advice on offer today. We are very grateful to all the exhibitors for arranging special offers for our students, and for taking the time to be with us today”.
