What we offer
Each year, the College supports around 24,000 students in achieving their personal educational goals, by offering an extensive portfolio of programmes available either on a full-time or part-time basis.
The main categories of courses are available in the following forms:-
Full-Time
Full-Time study usually involves daily attendance to the College, with more than 16 hours per week classroom teaching. The main levels of full-time courses are First Diploma, National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and Foundation Degree. Other popular choices include NVQ levels (1-4), Foundation Diplomas, GCE Applied, and other Higher Diploma options. These options allow students to progress to a similar course within the College, or to higher education (degrees) at university. Other students will choose a pathway directly into employment using the work experience practice they have gained while at the College.
Many courses are developed in conjunction with local employers and are designed to give the students a feel for future employment, and to enhance practical ability in their chosen vocation. A prime example is the trades and apprenticeships opportunities through the Training for Success portfolio. The Job-Ready and Apprenticeship Training options allow young people to choose a trade and earn as they learn in practical way.

Part-Time
The College offers a comprehensive range of part-time courses which are available either during the day or in the evening. These are suitable to those individuals who, for whatever reason, cannot commit to full-time study. The choices on offer increase every year, and are available largely in the following categories: Essential Skills (Numeracy & Literacy), Return to study, Professional Development, and Hobby & Recreation.
The levels of courses and curriculum choices on offer are similar to those available on a full-time basis, and are designed to provide similar progression routes on completion. Part-time study, particularly for mature students, offers fun, enjoyable and rewarding experiences, giving students a sense of new found confidence, resulting in enhanced knowledge and skills and improved career prospects.

Community Education
The College’s vibrant learning community includes learners undertaking courses at local community centres and organisations, co-ordinated by our Community Outreach Department. These courses enable individuals and small groups to undertake short courses in areas including Essential Skills, GCSEs, Return to Study, and Hobby & Special Interest. A wide range of courses are on offer in partnership with communities and organisations throughout the North West region – learning that is truly on your doorstep.
School Links (for 14-16 year olds)
For many years, the College has been leading the field in assisting post-primary schools in delivering occupational learning options, which complement the academic studies pupils undertake in their own school. Increasing numbers of young people have chosen to supplement their GCSE and A Level studies with our vocational courses, which has enabled them to broaden their skill base and career opportunities.
The College’s successful tradition in school links can be attributed to a combination of the first-rate learning resources and teaching delivery dedicated to these programmes. Our expert staff guide young people through the courses using industry-standard equipment and facilities, and provide the necessary learning support and guidance to prepare them for the next stage in their career development.
