Many courses are developed in conjunction with local employers and are designed to give the students a feel for future employment, and to enhance practical ability in their chosen vocation. A prime example is the trades and apprenticeships opportunities through the Training for Success portfolio. The Job-Ready and Apprenticeship Training options allow young people to choose a trade and earn as they learn in practical way.
North West Regional College, supported by the Department for the Economy (DfE), Ulster University and many leading employers across the North West Region are delighted to announce a major new employment initiative for the North West Region.
The College has secured funding to offer 5 Higher Level Apprenticeship (HLA) programmes tailored to industry needs. These programmes will offer employers an opportunity to ‘employ clever’ through an initiative which is aimed at addressing high-level skills shortages which are increasingly evident across the region.
A Higher Level Apprenticeship is a unique work-based programme which enables participants to earn while they learn and gain a nationally recognised professional qualification (Foundation Degree). Successful candidates will be employed in a company relevant to their chosen profession to gain valuable experience over a 2 or 3 year period. This experience will feature a close mentoring relationship and academic support provided by North West Regional College as they progress through the relevant Foundation Degree.
The levels of courses and curriculum choices on offer are similar to those available on a full-time basis, and are designed to provide similar progression routes on completion. Part-time study, particularly for mature students, offers fun, enjoyable and rewarding experiences, giving students a sense of new found confidence, resulting in enhanced knowledge and skills and improved career prospects.
We develop our Higher Education portfolio through consultation with the local economy so that course options, content, and practical experience are directly related to the skills and knowledge in positions of employment that are offered by employers. Course teaching is delivered by committed and experienced academic personnel, with advice and guidance on hand from friendly and dedicated support staff.
