NWRC are now recruiting applicants for 3 FREE training courses which can help you secure or move towards a job.

These short courses are fully funded through Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Labour Market Partnership and will give individuals the skills that employers are looking for in the areas of: Office, IT and Customer Service; Advanced Manufacturing; and Construction.

Office, IT and Customer Service Skills Academy

This programme is a new and innovative training course for people across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area who would like to develop their skills and confidence before entering the world of work.

North West Regional College along with Derry and Strabane’s Labour Market Partnership have designed a 5 week programme which includes training, upskilling, mentoring and support which will help you secure future employment.

Course content will include soft skills like communication, IT Office Skills, CV and Interview Skills, Employability Skills and Principals of Customer Service.

What you need to know

Dates: First Academy: 5th December and Second Academy: January 2023
Times: 5 week upskilling programme. Monday to Friday, 9:30am-2:30pm

  • Level 1 Award in Office Skills accredited by OCN NI
  • Guaranteed interview with an employer at the end of the Academy
  • CV, application form, interview and mentoring support
  • 1 week placement with a suitable employer
  • Gift pack upon completion of course
  • Limited spaces available

Construction Skills Academy

This 7-week Skills Academy provides an ideal introduction to the construction industry and covers essential skills in the following construction trades: carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, wall and floor tiling, construction technology, Health & Safety including CSR card training, abrasive wheels, manual handling and asbestos awareness.

The programme will include 5 weeks of intensive training from Monday to Friday on site at Springtown Campus, followed by a 2 week work placement.

  • Level 1 Construction Skills Award accredited by City & Guilds
  • CSR card
  • 2 week placement with a suitable employer

Advanced Manufacturing Skills Academy

This 5 week Advanced Manufacturing Skills Academy is ideal to help learners develop the knowledge and skills required for employment in the manufacturing and digital fabrication industries. The programme will include three weeks of training in college, three masterclasses from employers and two weeks in a work placement.

Course content will include soft skills such as communication, health & safety, production manufacturing skills and digital fabrication.
