Course Overview

Site carpentry and joinery focus on the installation of the joinery components, and on the setting out and fabrication of timber elements used in construction. Carpentry & Joinery enables you to work internally or externally on a range of projects, making furniture, stairs, roofing systems - the variety for a skilled professional is always challenging. Finishing to a high standard and job satisfaction are integral to success. CNC engraving and milling is an additional woodcraft which you may gain experience with at NWRC. Our students also have the opportunity to compete in Regional and UK Competitions with the aim of continuing to World Skills. Participation in competition and winning awards enhances the student’s Curriculum Vitae and may lead to exciting employment opportunities.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed. A level 2 qualification in carpentry and joinery is also required.

ROI Requirements

Leaving Certificate English and Maths at Grade 05 or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed. A level 2 qualification in carpentry and joinery is also required.

Work Placement

You will be employed and therefore will attend college 1 day per week.

Further Study

On successful completion of the Apprentice NI Level 3 Diploma, options for further progression include the Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma, NEBOSH, Degree options HE.

• Newly trained bench joiners can earn in the range of £14,000 - £17,000• Trained with experience bench joiners can earn in the range of £20,000 - £30,000• Senior/master craft bench joiners can earn in the range of £30,000 - £40,000Salaries depend on location, employer, level of responsibility, and the amount of overtime worked. Self-employed bench joiners set their own pay rates.Carpenters and Joiners with the right skills and qualifications can become College Lecturers.
