Course Overview

This is a nationally recognised construction qualification aimed at students who wish to follow a career in Civil Engineering.The Extended Diploma in Civil Engineering is a two-year, full-time course that is equivalent to 3 A levels. The course will provide opportunities for students to progress within the industry and to higher level study, for example, Higher National Certificate/ Diploma or a Civil Engineering degree course at university. The course can also support learners who want to progress directly to employment in job roles in the construction industry and to Higher Level Apprenticeships in the construction sector.Throughout the course you will get the opportunity to gain excellent practical and academic skills, knowledge and experience. You will learn how to use industry standard surveying equipment and computer aided design software to produce surveys, plans and specifications for domestic and commercial buildings. Assessment projects are designed to be directly related to real life construction industry scenarios.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

applicants must have achieved a Level 2 Diploma in Construction, OR 4 GCSEs (Grade C or above) to include English and Mathematics

ROI Requirements

4 OLCs (Grade O5 or above) to include Mathematics and English; OR Leaving Cert Applied - Merit

Further Study

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress to a Higher National Certificate or to a Higher-Level Apprenticeship within NWRC. You can also progress to university to study in areas including Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology and Construction/ Site Management.

Career Prospects

The course will provide opportunities for you to progress directly into employment at technician level in areas such as Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, Quantity Surveying or Building Services Engineering. You could also potentially work for building contractors as a site engineer or construction manager trainee.
