The BTEC Level 4 Construction and the Built Environment (Civil Engineering) course will equip students with the skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the global construction and the built environment sector.The course will provide education and training with an emphasis on Civil Engineering, however, also caters for a range of careers in construction and the built environment, including Architectural Technology, Building Services Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Construction Management.The course will provide students with an understanding of the way technologies are transforming the industries of construction and the built environment and prepare them to work with these technologies within a challenging and rewarding industry.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

Applicants must have achieved the equivalent of 48 UCAS Tariff points together with a minimum of 5 passes at GCSE Grade C or above, which must include Mathematics, English Language or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, OR a BTEC National Diploma at MP grade or above OR a BTEC National Extended Diploma at PPP grade or above in a relevant area of study (including GCSE Mathematics, English Language or equivalent Level 2 qualification).

Applicants must have achieved the equivalent of 48 UCAS Tariff points together with 5 OLCs at Grade 04 or above in to include Mathematics and English.

Further Study

Successful completion of the course will allow students to progress onto the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment at NWRC or to another higher education qualification such as a university degree in a construction and the built environment related area.

Career Prospects

This is an industry recognised qualification. In developing the programme, the Awarding Body, Pearson BTEC, have aligned content to meet requirements of a number of professional bodies, including the Institute of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Architectural technologists and the Chartered Institute of building. This course has been specifically designed to prepare students for employment in the area of Civil Engineering in the construction industry, either with design consultants, contractors or the public sector. SSE Airtricity Scholarship Students who enrol on the HND Built Environment programme are eligible to apply for an SSE Airtricity Scholarship. Successful students who meet criteria for the award receive a bursary equal to half their course fees.
