Course Overview

The purpose of this course is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the public services sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects for learners. The objectives of the BTEC HND in Public Services are to equip students with public service skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance within global public services and to provide education and training for a range of careers in public services, including, local government, Civil Service, public administration, the armed forces, police force, fire and rescue services, ambulance (not paramedic), prison service and the charity and voluntary sector. Furthermore it is the aim of the course to provide insight and understanding into the diversity of roles within public services, recognising the importance of collaboration and to provide opportunities for students to progress in employment or higher education qualifications such as an Honours degree in Criminology, Policing, Applied Social Sciences, Public Services Management, or related pathway.
