Course Overview

This an exciting new course at NWRC, Limavady. This BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Activities is aimed at students wanting to progress into employment or higher education in outdoor adventure activities. Learners with this qualification will often proceed to work as a freelance outdoor activity instructor. They can work at a variety of outdoor pursuit centres for example high ropes courses, adventure centres, waterparks, and residential adventure centres. Learners will gain the underpinning knowledge, skills and behaviour needed to work as an outdoor activities instructor.

Fees must be paid at the time of enrolment, or arrangements should be put in place to pay by instalments. The full fee includes tuition, registration and examination fees (where relevant). Depending on your circumstances you may be entitled to a reduced (concessionary) fee. Reduced fees are applied to the cost of tuition only. Further Study

Learners may progress to several different higher-education courses or to work in the outdoor activities sector in associated roles, such as outdoor adventure, sports development, tourism, and events. Learners can progress to higher education degree programmes such as the BSc (Hons) Outdoor Adventure at Ulster University, Coleraine, or to other degree programmes including BA (Hons) Outdoor Adventure Leadership, BSc Hons in Outdoor Adventure and Environment, BSc Hons in Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Management.

Career Prospects

The qualification is suitable for learners who want to progress directly to employment in the outdoor activities sector as an outdoor activities instructor. Alternatively this programme can provide direct entry to higher education degree programmes in outdoor adventures.
