Course Overview

This qualification is designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to provide clinical supervision for counselling practitioners. It is aimed at counsellors who have acquired sufficient client work experience to contemplate the move into a clinical supervision role.Participants must • Be working as counsellors under supervision.• Have both supervisees and supervisory supervision.This qualification is designed to lead to an employed or voluntary role as a clinical counselling supervisor in a counselling agency or in independent practice. Supervision is an ongoing professional requirement for all practicing counsellors and those with a recognised qualification should have increased job opportunities.

This qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or severe psychological confusion as the course demands considerable personal disclosure during experiential personal development activities.To apply for the Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision candidates must• Be aged 19 or over• Have a qualification in Therapeutic Counselling- L4 or Person Centered Counselling- L5 or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy- L5 (or equivalent/RPL)• Have obtained a minimum of 450 supervised client hours• Be able to provide references on requestThe following factors will also be considered when selecting candidates:• Academically and emotionally able to cope with this level of training.• Ability to work with difference and diversity.• Possess personal qualities of imagination, intuition, openness and ability to benefit from self-development.• Possess the qualities appropriate for a supervision relationship.• Have self-awareness, insight, honesty and the ability to make links.• Emotional stability and the absence of personality disturbance.• Ability to challenge and be challenged.• Ability to respond sensitively and empathically to others.• Ability to model professional attitudes and behaviour.

Additional Information

Counsellors with a recognised qualification in supervision are eligible for employment as clinical counselling supervisors.
