Student Case Study

Early Years student Bridget Coyle nurses a Real Care Baby in the Childcare suite at NWRC

Bridget Coyle

Course: BSc (Hons) Early Childhood Care, Health and Education

Meet Bridget, who progressed from a Level 3 Extended Diploma to study a full bachelor of science (BSc) degree with NWRC. She is currently gaining practical work experience with Hollybush Primary School while completing her Degree.

While studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma I got the opportunity to work as a classroom assistant at Hollybush Primary School. I'm delighted to still be working with Hollybush while completing my Degree. This would not have been possible without my placement at NWRC.

Previous Education before you came to NWRC?

Thornhill College, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Children’s Care Learning and Development and HND in Early Childhood Education & Care.

Why did you choose to study Childcare at NWRC?

Studying at NWRC was something I knew I wanted to do right from the beginning of secondary school. It offered the exact course that I had a strong interest in with clear progression pathways.

The opportunity to study whilst on work placement in an Early Years setting enticed me greatly.

Tell us more about your course

When I first came to the College after school, I enrolled on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. I was in the College two days a week, with three days on work placement.

I absolutely loved my time at Hollybush Primary School, and I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work there as a classroom assistant. This would not have been possible without my placement at NWRC.

What do you plan to do afterwards?

I am delighted to say I am still working at Hollybush while completing my degree. The wide range of courses at NWRC gives students the opportunity to study while they work. This has been a fabulous opportunity for me, and I would recommend NWRC and any of the Early Years courses to anyone interested in a career within the industry.

The staff at NWRC have been hugely supportive throughout my years studying here and for that, I will always be grateful.
