Course Overview

N.B. Applicants must be fully qualified counsellors, holding a professional counselling qualification and currently registered with a professional counselling body. Please do not apply if you do not meet this criteria. This CPD qualification is intended for qualified counsellors who want to develop Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills and theory as an integral part of their professional counselling work. This qualification is designed to enhance the employability of counsellors in organisational settings and as independent practitioners by giving them a solid grounding in CBT skills and theory. Supervision: The course includes group training supervision in addition to the candidate’s own supervision arrangements for their client work. Candidates should be employed or in a placement to enable them to work with three clients for at least 30 hours. Full attendance is required to ensure success on the programme.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

Candidates must have a professional practice qualification in Counselling. This may include : CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4) or FdSc Integrative Counselling Practice or an equivalent counselling qualification.

ROI Requirements

Candidates must work as a counsellor or have access to a placement to complete the required CBT sessions with clients.

What's Next?

Further Study

Once completed you may progress to the Open Universitys Foundation Degree in Counselling. Following sufficient client work experience, you can also progress to CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision (TCSU-L6).

Career Prospects

Counsellors who have knowledge and skills in CBT are sought after in NHS. Completing this qualification may increase the opportunities for employment.
