Course Overview

Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a priority skills area and there are many opportunities for Engineers qualified in this discipline, whether employed as a design engineer, a contractor or a consultant. Having completed this course, students can progress to a wide range of careers in technical and management positions. Areas of work include telecommunications, manufacturing, production, computing and automation, electronics, testing and diagnostics, robotics, research and development and a wide range of infrastructure projects and transportation Through the programme students will learn to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems. They will be able to perform effectively in their chosen field, and will have the qualities necessary for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making in a professional setting.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

56 UCAS points; Applicants must have Level 3 passes in at least one of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Engineering, Science or Technology (or equivalent), and a minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE Mathematics and English (or equivalent).OR Relevant Access course with an overall mark of at least 41%, including passes in Mathematics and a Science subject. Students who do not possess formal qualifications will be eligible to apply through APEL procedures for entry onto the course.

Further Study

Students who complete the programme can either progress directly into employment or enter Year 2 of an Honours degree programme subject to satisfying the universities entry criteria.

This course will enable students to take up well paid employment opportunities within an innovative technology focused industry e.g. manufacturing, product design, infrastructure, energy and transportation. The HND is recognised by the Engineering Council, and has been designed in consultation with the following professional bodies Royal Aeronautical Society, Royal Academy of Engineering, Society of Operations Engineers , and The Institute of Engineering and Technology. Holders of a Pearson BTEC Higher National in Engineering meet the academic requirements for the Engineering Council Engineering Technician Standard (EngTech).
