Course Overview

The OCN NI Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care (Adult Residential Management) (Northern Ireland) is an innovative qualification that aims to provide learners currently working in a management or leadership role within health and social care with leadership and management training. It will provide a wide range of options to enhance their leadership and management skills and knowledge within the health and social care sector. The Level 5 Diploma explores the theories of leadership, addressing key policies, procedures and regulatory frameworks within the industry and how these are applied within the work setting. This qualification is a mandated Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) course and is compulsory for all managers and deputy managers within the sector employed in a setting which is regulated under the Residential and Nursing Home Standards. The course teaching and learning is supported by one-to-one peripatetic assessment over the duration of the qualification for each student. This is to meet qualification competency requirements. Progression to Year 2 will be dependent on progress and attendance.

Learners must be at least 18 years of age and currently employed in a management or leadership role within adult health and social care. Learners must be able to evidence competencies within their own work environment and job role. Learners will be required to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to successfully complete the qualification. All applicants must attend an a pre-enrolment screening interview and a pre-entry sample task will be required.
