UK Requirements4 GCSEs (Grade C or above); OR Level 2 Diploma. Applicants should be playing or coaching football with a team.
ROI Requirements4 OLCs (Grade O5 or above) OR Leaving Cert Applied-Merit or Level 2 Diploma. Applicants should be playing or coaching football with a team.

Attendance at Information Session
There is no formal work placement on the course, but students will be expected to engage in coaching practices at their own clubs and with course coaching sessions. In year 2 there is an opportunity to complete an Erasmus project to a European country. In 2023 sports students travelled to Malaga for a two-week work placement in sports coaching, physiotherapy, fitness instructing and teaching.
Further StudyStudents will achieve UCAS points through completion of this course. Therefore, progression to higher education, i.e. Foundation Degrees and University Degrees remains a valid option for many students (dependant on the grade profile achieved). Progression routes can include our Foundation Degree in Sport (validated by Ulster University) and degrees such as PE Teaching, Sports Coaching, Fitness Instruction and Sports Development at universities such as Ulster University, Liverpool Hope, Liverpool John Moore’s and University of Central Lancashire.
Career ProspectsThe Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development focuses primarily on progression to employment as a coach. The variety units in this qualification give learners employment opportunities for working with participants of all ages. Possible job roles include community coach, school / after-school coach, sports development coach, and multi-sports coach.
