Transition (Level 1 / 2 Certificate / Diploma)

Care & Health

Course Overview

This course is designed for those with mild to moderate learning disabilities, and provides a wide range of learning opportunities to help with employment or progression onto further courses. Classes are small with a high lecturer to student ratio, as well as classroom support staff. The aim is to provide students with the opportunity to improve educational qualifications and improve future work opportunities. For some students, this means working on areas such as self-esteem, social anxiety and self-confidence. We incorporate health and wellbeing throughout the course. After two years, students will receive OCN Level 1/2 certificates in Vocational Skills and Employability Skills. Students can take an optional project-based learning module -This involves using the students ideas to create new products and run small enterprises. This exciting and innovative way of learning provides opportunities for team working, leadership and development of communication skills. All applicants will be interviewed, and parents, and relevant professionals may attend. Arrangements for meeting individual support needs will be discussed to ensure that students have every opportunity to succeed.

It made sense for me to study in an area where I could work alongside my studies. There is a huge benefit to the HLA because you can study locally, there’s no course fees and you learn about the industry while you’re working. There are so many employment opportunities!

  • NWRC is a great place to learn. The NWRCSU is run by students, for students. We will do our upmost to ensure that the student voice is strong in the College and that your views are being heard right at the very top. Let us all work together so that every student feels that they belong to the college
