This course provides a nationally recognised qualification offering career progression and professional development for those already in employment in the early years sector and opportunities to progress into Higher Education, University to a Teacher Training qualification or an (Hons) Degree in Early Childhood Studies, Psychology, Nursing, Paediatrics, Social Work, Youth Work or another related profession. The course offers flexibility and particularly suits mature students returning to study.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

48 UCAS Points or Applicants must have a Level 3 Qualification, e.g. National Certificate/Diploma in Early Years or CCLD, CACHE Level 3 Diploma/ Extended Diploma, DCE, an AVCE/advanced GNVQ in an appropriate Vocational area, GCE A level/ Leaving Cert. Grade C (or above) in GCSE English is desirable but not essential. Interviews will be held for admission to this course. 525 work placement hours are required. Attendance at an information session is essential.

ROI Requirements

48 UCAS points and minimum of OLC English at grade O5 is essential. Access 40%. Applicants must have a Level 3 Qualification, e.g. Leaving Certificate, BTEC National Diploma, CACHE Level 3 Diploma/ Extended Diploma, DCE, Level 3 in Playwork, an AVCE/Advanced GNVQ in an appropriate Vocational area. Please note in some universities OLC Grade 05 may not be accepted as equivalent to GCSE Grade C. 525 work placement hours are required. Access NI check & Health Declaration all required. Attendance at an information session is essential. Students cannot be enrolled unless form signed by course coordinator.

Additional Information

This course is offered on a Part-time twilight basis to facilitate those who are in employment. Students interested in careers in Early Years, Nursing, Social Work, Psychology and Paediatrics amongst others will study units consisting of Personal & Professional Development through Reflective Practice, Protecting Children, Play & Learning,Supporting & Promoting Childrens Development ( 0-8 years), Promoting Healthy Living, Preparing for Research and Promoting Inclusive Environments. Applicants are expected to complete 525 hours of professional work placement during year 1 and 2 of the course in a range of early years settings. Work placement must cover the following age groups: 0 - 1 year 11 months; 2- 4 years 11 months; 5- 7 years 11 months Attendance at an information session is essential. Enrolment is subject to checks, including a satisfactory Access NI check.
