Students take part in "real life" Project Based Learning opportunities in addition to attending a work placement. Essential Skills in English, Maths & ICT is an integral part of the programme. All students must undertake work placement as part of the programme and will receive a non-means tested training allowance of £40.00 per week for the duration of the programme, plus travel allowance to get to and from work placement. The placement model will eventually see students attending college three days per week and placement two days per week during academic year, then during the summer, students will attend work placement five days per week. Students enrolling on SFLAW at NWRC will have the choice to focus on some of the following vocational pathways throughout the academic year: Broad-based (more than one professional and technical qualification); Construction; Hair & Beauty; Hospitality; Health Social Care, Children and Young People. You’ll need a ‘Training Credit’ to join the programme. I studied the OCN Level 2 Award in Bakery & Patisserie. My course was delivered in the College's kitchens. There was a sense of community and a warm relaxing atmosphere throughout. If I was to describe my experience in 3 words it would be fun, exciting and therapeutic!

I was so much happier completing a course in something I really enjoyed, rather than studying three A-Levels in subjects that weren't going to benefit me in the future.
