NWRC's Digital Marketing Officer was recently featured in the Derry Journal as Friday's Child.....

This week’s Friday’s Child is the new Digital Marketing Officer at North West Regional College, Helen McCarter. In charge of all things digital and social media at NWRC, Helen is currently working with her colleagues in the Marketing and PR team as they prepare to release the 2019/2020 Part Time Prospectus in May. Helen is engaged to Phil and the couple are looking forward to their wedding in October. She is also a well-known and successful freelance photographer.

How would you describe yourself?

Friendly, ambitious and loyal.

Happiest childhood memory?

I’ve lots of happy memories but our camping holidays were the best or shopping trips with my nana.

What was your first job?

Sales assistant in River Island, I always loved fashion and clothes so I enjoyed the discount!

Favourite book?

The new NWRC HLA guide of course.

Favourite film?

Pretty Woman.

Favourite television programme?

Peaky Blinders or Game Of Thrones.

Favourite expression?

“Happy days” “sweet” “whoop whoop”

Favourite method of relaxation?

Caravanning in Portrush and Wine Time!

Favourite holiday destination?

New York without a doubt!

Who would you most like to meet?

Kevin Bridges for the laughs.

What makes you angry?

Bad drivers… I’m prone to a bit of road rage.

What makes you happy?

Spending time with family and friends, visiting new places, beach walks, sunsets and nice restaurants.


What human quality do you most admire?

Selflessness.

What human quality do you least admire?

Arrogance.

What has been the most embarrassing thing to happen to you?

Trying to show off with an ab roller machine and splitting my chin in the process…needless to say I won’t be trying that again.

What was the worst thing to happen to you in your life?

The deaths of close family.

What is your greatest fear?

Losing people I love.

What has been the high point of your life to date?

Getting engaged to Phil of course.

How would you like to be remembered?

As someone who lived life to the full and gave everything her all.

What is your most treasured possession?

My SLR camera, photography is one of my real passions and it’s opened so many doors for me.

If you won the lotto what would you do with it?

Book a 5 star luxury holiday for all my family and friends and buy a mansion by the sea in Portrush.

If you could be granted one wish in life, what would you ask for?

To have an everlasting money tree in my back garden.


If you could write your own epitaph what would it be?

She loved the craic….a party animal until the end.
