Course Overview

This course is designed for learners wishing to gain an apprenticeship within the Civil Engineering industry. To access this course, applicants should note that they must first be in employment or have secured employment with a relevant Civil Engineering employer for the duration of the course prior to commencing. NWRC is the education provider for the course which will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to start working and/ or pursue a career in Civil Engineering. The apprenticeship course is a two-year, full-time course and is equivalent to 3 A-levels. 1 extended day will be spent at NWRC and 4 days are spent with the employer. Throughout the course you will get the opportunity to gain excellent practical and academic skills, knowledge and experience, achieved through work-based learning and directed training within the workplace and at the college.Further information as to how you can apply for an apprenticeship can be found through Apprenticeship Connect (NI).

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

This is an apprenticeship course and applicants should note that they must first be in employment or have secured employment with a relevant employer for the duration of the course prior to commencing. Should an employer be secured, applicants are required to have: Level 2 Diploma in Construction, OR 4 GCSEs (Grade C or above) to include English and Mathematics.

ROI Requirements

This is an apprenticeship course and applicants should note that they must first be in employment or have secured employment with a relevant employer for the duration of the course prior to commencing. Should an employer be secured, applicants are required to have: Level 2 Diploma in Construction, OR 4 OLCs (Grade O5 or above) to include English and Mathematics; OR Leaving Cert Applied - Merit.

Apprentices will be employed full time within the construction industry working a minimum of 21 hours per week.

What's Next?

Further Study

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress to a Level 4 Higher National Certificate, Level 5 Higher National Diploma or to a Higher-Level Apprenticeship at NWRC. Students could also progress to a relevant university degree course if they attain the necessary UCAS points.

Career Prospects

The course will provide opportunities for you to progress directly into employment at technician level in civil engineering. You could also potentially work for building contractors as a site engineer or construction manager trainee.
