Engineering (Fabrication and Welding) (Level 2 Apprenticeship / Traineeship)

Course Overview

As a welder you will work with metals and alloys, and cut and join composite materials, such as plastics, using specialist welding methods. Progressing to L3, you will need an understanding of safe working practices. Your day-to-day tasks may include:• setting out the materials to be cut or joined• following engineering instructions and drawings• inspecting and testing cuts and joins, using precision measuring instruments• operating the semi-automatic spot-welding equipment used in high volume production lines You will usually work in the construction and engineering, transport, aerospace and offshore oil and gas industries. Welders need to be able to interpret drawings and translate these into accurate structures and products. Welders join sections, pipe & plate and fabricate large and small pressure vessels. Participation in competition and winning awards enhances the student’s Curriculum Vitae and may lead to exciting employment opportunities or lead to progression on higher level courses. Enrichment activities include competing in Regional and UK Competitions with the aim of representing your country at World Skills which will be in China in 2021.
