Wendy Barclay

Wendy (41) is currently studying for a Higher Level Apprenticeship (Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care Learning and Development Management.

She first studied at NWRC more than 20 years ago, completing her NNEB Diploma in Nursing in 1998, and is now in the final year of her HLA.

Wendy said: “I am currently working in a Day Care Nursery in Eglinton as a supervisor in The Baby Room. I have been working here for almost 20 years, I was given the opportunity from my employer to further my education/qualification through completing the HLA Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care Learning and Development Management.

“I am currently in my last year of this 2 year part time course which I attend NWRC every Tuesday afternoon, and hope to finish in June of this year. As it has been a long time since I’ve been in further education this was a big learning curve for me and I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.

“My course tutors, assessors and work colleagues’ have been instrumental in me completing this course and I would recommend anyone to complete a HLA course even later on in life, It is still achievable. I felt very surprised to be nominated for this award as I feel everyone who is completing this course is as deserving as I am, but I am very proud to be acknowledged by my tutors and assessors for this award.”

The Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Awards 2021 will be hosted in a special ‘virtual’ awards ceremony on Wednesday 28 April 2021 – one of the highlight events during Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week 2021, which will run from 26 to 30 April 2021.
