NWRC is a wonderful model of good practice for those who want to celebrate and share their own and just importantly other people’s identities and culture.

North West Regional College (NWRC) has become the first NI Further Education College to be certified by the Northern Ireland Office of Identity and Cultural Expression (OICE).

Recently the college met with representatives from the OICE who officially recognised NWRC for its efforts to promote inclusivity through respect for different cultures and traditions

Set up under the 2022 Northern Ireland Identity and Language Act, the OICE focuses on promoting cultural diversity and respect for different traditions, encouraging reconciliation and social cohesion, building community resilience around identity differences, and celebrating the heritage of all residents.

Katy Radford Chief Executive of the OICE said: “NWRC is a wonderful model of good practice for those who want to celebrate and share their own and just importantly other people’s identities and culture.

“Throughout the past year I’ve had the opportunity to meet with the college’s senior management team, as well as take part in college events. One of these was the college’s Culturally themed Health and Wellbeing Day fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose across the College community.

“During the event staff and students got to experience different types of culture including: dance, music, food and crafts. I would like to congratulate the staff of the College for their dedication to encouraging cultural expression and fostering an inclusive environment.”

Gillian Moss, Head of Client Services at NWRC added: “Along with our College of Sanctuary accreditation in 2025, this award from the OICE is further evidence of the college’s ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for staff, students and visitors.

“Education and skills have a transformative impact, and at NWRC we are proud of our longstanding commitment to creating opportunities for all learners. This award reflects the College's dedication to ensuring that everyone feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed. I would like to thank all staff, especially those working within equality and inclusion, whose passion and dedication help make NWRC a welcoming and inclusive place to learn."
