Media production students from North West Regional College have been tasked to create short video content highlighting the benefits of public transport and encouraging more young people to save on transport costs with Translink’s yLink card.
The special film project is part of this terms curriculum and will see students working in pairs to plan, shoot and edit videos under a choice of themes including Climate Champions, City Adventures and Connected Communities.
The videos will highlight the benefits of choosing public transport and the savings which can be made using Translink’s yLink card which is free for all 16-23 year olds and entitles them to 50% off bus and rail travel across the network.
Michael Timoney, who teaches on the Creative Digital Media Production course at NRWC said,
“This is a great project for our students to get involved in as they get to understand what it takes to create advertising content for a client. I’m confident our students will produce excellent videos for Translink and showcase the yLink card in a creative and appealing way.”
Commenting on the new youth-focused digital project, Alan Young, Service Delivery Manager at Foyle Street Bus Centre said,
“More and more young people are choosing to use the yLink card as they are increasingly aware of the importance of choosing sustainable travel options and saving money. This project with NWRC is a great chance to work with young people to showcase the many benefits of public transport and encourage their peers join them in choosing bus and rail as the affordable and attractive travel option.”
Dr. Danny Laverty Head of Technology and Creative Industries at NWRC added, “Our students have been given a great opportunity to work on a live project with Translink. These videos will be of great benefit to other young people using public transport across Northern Ireland. I’d like to thank our lecturers for the support they’ve given to students, and I look forward to the awards ceremony in December.”
Working with the college, Translink will judge the student’s videos and pick the winning entries which will be announced at an NWRC awards ceremony on the 15th December at the Strand Road campus.
