North West Regional College (NWRC) is to hold an information event for prospective students to find out more about careers in the dental sector.
The ‘Dental Careers Start Here’ event will showcase Dental Nursing courses at NWRC – these include the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing which can be studied both part time and full time – and two brand new courses – Fluoride Varnish Application and the Level 4 Certificate in Orthodontic Dental Nursing. Dental Nursing courses are offered at the college’s campuses in Strabane and Limavady.
Michaela Doherty, Lecturer in Dental Nursing at NWRC said: “With increasing demand for skilled dental professionals this event is the perfect opportunity for school leavers and adults to learn more about working in dental nursing and enjoy some interactive demonstrations.
“We also welcome dental nurses already working in the industry to provide more information about our new courses in Fluoride Varnish Application and Orthodontic Dental Nursing which they can study in tandem with their current employment.
“There will be an opportunity to speak with current and past students and tour NWRC’s state‑of‑the‑art clinical dental suite. I’m looking forward to meeting with interested students and giving them guidance on what the course will entail and what career progression opportunities are available.”
Dr. Meabh Owens from Ebrington Dental will be in attendance at the event and will be available to talk to any students who may have any questions about careers in Dentistry.
Dr Owens said: “I am looking forward to the event at North West Regional College, an opportunity to showcase the benefits of a career in Dental Nursing. Several of our nurses at Ebrington Dental have completed the Dental Nursing Practitioners Apprenticeship programme at NWRC and now play a crucial role in the dental care and patient comfort and satisfaction we provide at the surgery.
