SEE YOU ON THE SLOPES CODY - My time as a NWRC Sport student

20 April 2022
Cody mckinney

Meet Cody McKinney who studied the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development at NWRC and has now progressed to the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Fitness

She said: "I previously studied at Oakgrove Integrated College. I choose NWRC because I was able to study just Sport for my A- levels instead of doing two other subjects that I didn't want to do if I had stayed at school.

The course I am doing currently is the Foundation Degree in Sport which helps me progress to a final year of a top-up degree in Sport. This course provides a wide range of topics but a few of my favourites would be: work-based learning and physical education as they both give me an idea of what it's like to be a teacher.

The course is mainly coursework-based with a few exams and a few practical assessments like presenting PowerPoint or teaching a topic to your peers.

I took part in work-based learning I was in Scoil Mhuire secondary school in Buncrana which opened my eyes to being a teacher and how to manage a class or year group in different environments. This experience has inspired me to go on a study to be a teacher.

My plan after this course is to do a top-up degree in sports in Leeds, then follow that up with a teaching degree in another subject, or follow it up with a two years masters in physiotherapy.

I would recommend this course to anyone that is interested in doing Sports as the course is a great start. The lecturers are so friendly and help so much to get you to the best grade you can achieve which has motivated me to go on further in my career.
