Best in Further Education Awards

Students at North West Regional College (NWRC) have received special recognition awards at the annual Best in Further Education Celebrations at Limavady campus

Tiffany Arnscheidt received the Zachary Geddis Award in recognition of exceptional commitment to supporting her peers, while Charlotte Beckett received the Barbara Crone award for her positivity, outlook, and eagerness to learn.

Level 1 Hospitality student Tiffany Arnscheidt was praised for being “a calm, reassuring, and supportive presence” which has significantly contributed to reducing anxiety for a new student settling into college life.

Her lecturer Leyonia Davey said “Throughout this period, Tiffany has shown outstanding kindness, patience, and initiative. She supported the new student during lessons, encouraged them to take part, and helps keep them engaged in both theory and practical work. Her inclusive approach fosters a positive and welcoming atmosphere, benefiting the wider peer group.

“Tiffany consistently demonstrates professionalism in her interactions with staff, students, and customers. She is polite, approachable, and friendly, creating a positive impression through her respectful and welcoming manner. Her contribution has had a meaningful impact on the confidence, wellbeing, and engagement of her peers, making her highly deserving of this nomination.”

Tiffany, who was presented with her award by Yasmin Geddis will return to NWRC in September 2026 to finish her Level 1 qualification

Level 3 Early Years student Charlotte Beckett has “brought laughter, smiles, and a real sense of joy to NWRC this year.”

Her lecturer Carol Thompson said: “From the very first day Charlotte joined the course, her positivity, outlook, and eagerness to learn were truly inspiring. On the days she wasn’t in college, her absence was genuinely felt by everyone. Charlotte was always willing to support others, offering help without being asked, and she consistently saw feedback as an opportunity to grow rather than as criticism.

“This same positivity was evident during her placement. She built strong, meaningful connections with the children, engaging with them at their level.”

Charlotte, who was presented with the Barbara Crone award by Barbara’s mum Annie Twaddell, has successfully completed her CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. She is now a qualified Early Years Practitioner and is already showing determination to continue her studies at a higher-level next year.

The Best in FE Awards celebrate the achievements of Further Education graduates from the College’s campuses across Derry~Londonderry, Strabane and Limavady.

The event is always a highlight in the College calendar and involves the presentation of certificates and prizes to students from the four main curriculum departments across all College campuses.
