Feedback from her placement officer and the principal of the school was excellent. The principal said that Cody was the best student she ever had during her time at school and would offer her employment. She also encouraged her to go on and do her teaching. High praise indeed.
Cody Brown, an Early Years student at North West Regional College’s (NWRC), Strabane campus has been announced as the 2026 recipient of the prestigious Eileen Cairns award.
The award was presented as part of NWRC’s annual Best in Further Education (FE) celebrations, held at the Strabane Campus, recognising outstanding achievement and commitment across the college.
Despite being only 16, Cody has shown exceptional maturity – she completed all her work and placement hours for the course whilst working part time.
She was praised by lecturer Pamela Canning who described Cody as an “outstanding student” with determination who thrives academically and personally no matter what challenges come her way.
She said: “Cody always comes to class with a smile on her face and shows dedication to completing her course. When she first started the Level 3 Children’s Care Learning and Development Cody was quiet and a little nervous, but over the course of the year Cody has grown in confidence and ability when working with children in a primary school.
“Feedback from her placement officer and the principal of the school was excellent. The principal said that Cody was the best student she ever had during her time at school and would offer her employment. She also encouraged her to go on and do her teaching. High praise indeed. “
Cody will be returning to NWRC Strabane in September to start her extended Level 3 in CCLD. This will give her the option of applying for higher level education.
