Media production students from North West Regional College were recently presented with prizes to recognise the best video productions as part of a project between the college and Translink to help promote public transport and highlight the savings available when using Translink’s yLink card.

The students had been tasked with creating videos aimed at their peers, showcasing the benefits of using Translink’s yLink card, including 50% off bus and rail fares to travel across Northern Ireland.

The special film project challenged the students to work in pairs to plan, shoot, and edit videos under a choice of themes including Climate Champions, City Adventures, and Connected Communities.

At a recent award ceremony at NWRC college, the creators of the three winning videos - Bridin NigRaine, Rebecca Flanagan, Niamh Brolly, Harry Lavery, Rhys Concannon, and Ben Lagan McCullough - were presented with certificates and prizes. Their videos titled ‘Daydreaming about Derry’, ‘The Lost yLink’ and ‘yLink takes you anywhere’, were recognised for their creativity, production skills, and delivery of the brief.

Michael Timoney, Lecturer Media/Multimedia at NRWC said, “The students worked very hard on their yLink projects and came up with their own individual ideas. We are very happy with the work they produced, and it shows their capabilities as media production students who will hopefully enter the working world more equipped with how to work towards their client’s brief.”

Commenting on the video project, Alan Young, Service Delivery Manager at Foyle Street Bus Centre, added, “We were really impressed with the creativity and quality of work the students from NWRC presented in their videos. They captured the importance of public transport for young people and how the yLink card can help you and your money go even further. Congratulations to the winners and well done to all the students who submitted videos.”

The winning videos will be showcased on Translink’s social media channels in the coming weeks.
