Declan McEleney

Name: Declan McEleney
Course: Apprenticeship NI Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (Fabrication and Welding)

Declan is currently completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship with NWRC, which allows students to earn a wage while they are studying towards their qualification. Earlier this year he was shortlisted as a finalist in the NI Apprentice of the Year awards.

Apprenticeships differ from school because you can actually earn a wage while gaining your qualifications. It helps you develop the skills you need on the job and also benefits you financially as well.

What was your previous education?

I previously studied at Oakgrove College.

Why did you choose to study an Apprenticeship with NWRC?

I decided to study at NWRC because it gave me the best opportunity to achieve where I wanted to be in the future. -----

What have you enjoyed most about your time at the College?

The best thing about NWRC is learning different skills within your area. It is a great benefit to have experienced tutors that can teach you everything that they learned while working in the industry. You can therefore use what they have taught you to help you through your career.

-----

What are your future plans?

Once I finish my Level 3 Diploma I hope to back to NWRC Springtown to gain more qualifications in Fabrication and Welding.
