Course Overview

This course offers a broad range of subjects designed to prepare you for employment or further/higher in computing. It is practical, engaging, and enjoyable, allowing you to develop your interest in computing while gaining a qualification equivalent to either 3 A Levels (Extended Diploma) or 2 A Levels (Diploma).The programme is tailored to meet employer needs and provides opportunities to progress to Foundation Degree courses at NWRC or university, subject to entry requirements. You will learn through a combination of projects, coursework, and timed assignments.Modules include:IT Systems, Creating Systems, Using Social Media in Business, Programming, Data Modelling, Website Development, Mobile Apps Development, Computer Games Development, IT Project Management, Cyber Security and Incident Management, IT Service Delivery, Digital Animation and Effects, Software Testing. Please note: If the required grades or criteria for the Extended Diploma are not achieved, you may be enrolled on the Diploma pathway instead.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

OCN NI Level 2 Diploma in Information Technology and L2 English and L2 Maths; OR 4 GCSEs (Grade C or above) to include English and Maths. Attendance at an information session is advised but not mandatory.

ROI Requirements

OCN NI Level 2 Diploma in Information Technology and L2 English and L2 Maths; OR 4 OLCs (Grade O5 or above) to include English and Maths OR Leaving Cert Applied – Merit. Attendance at an information session is advised but not mandatory.

What's Next?

Further Study

This course can enable students to progress to the OU Foundation Degree in Cybersecurity or UU Foundation Degree in Computing delivered at NWRC, subject to entry requirements being met. Past successful students have progressed to degree programmes at Ulster University, Queens - Belfast and other computing related degree programmes.
