Course Overview

Esports is defined as organised competitive gaming, which is human versus human, either as individuals or in teams. The esports industry is a fast-growing global industry. Newzoo published its Global Esports Market Report. This stated that, in 2022, the global esports market was valued at U.S. $1.38 billion. This is projected to reach U.S. $1.86 billion in 2025. This qualification has been developed to meet this upcoming demand for skills in esports. The qualification includes a breadth of transferable skills that enable learners to experience different areas of esports to aid their progression to employment, either directly or via further study. Esports offers a unique opportunity to study a sector that crosses over multiple subject areas such as sport, multimedia, marketing, enterprise, IT and the creatives. It provides an opportunity for alignment of social, physical, mental and financial skills into one qualification to deepen and expand learning. These are skills that are highly valued in the changing and fluid workplace.

4 GCSEs (Grade C or above) to include English and Maths

Work Placement

The course will enter at least one team into the British Esports Championships A national esports competition for schools and colleges. Online fixtures take place on a Wednesday afternoon. Other opportunities for students include: · Entry of teams into other local / national / international competitions/tournaments · Organisation and hosting of own tournaments, competitions and events

As this course covers IT and eSports, progression opportunities onto local Foundation Degree and Degree programmes in both disciplines are possible, including NWRC, Ulster University and Queens.
