Course Overview

This practical qualification is an excellent introduction to a career in Early Years. Whilst learning about topics such as Play, Safeguarding Children and Craft Activities, you will also have the opportunity to develop skills needed in the workplace such as:- - Effective communication and IT skills- Creativity and imagination- Planning and organisational skills- Teamwork and leadership skills- The ability to work with children in a sensitive and positive way There are no exams in this course. The course will be assessed through the creation of a portfolio of evidence consisting of written coursework, posters, leaflets and practical tasks such as the creation of Story Bags and sensory resources. Weekly practical sessions will introduce you to arts and crafts, our Early Years specialist room and the opportunity to care for our ‘Real Care Babies.’ Educational outings also form part of our curriculum.

Attempted 2 GCSEs (Grade D-G). Attendance at an information session is required. Young people may have left school without qualifications for a variety of reasons. We want to help you to rewrite your future by giving you the opportunity to study in an adult environment that does not feel like school. This is your opportunity to shine! All we ask of you is that you bring determination, a love of the subject, a real desire to learn about babies and children and a commitment to your studies with a good work ethic. This is also a super opportunity to prepare for your future as a parent.

Further Study

You may be able to move on to the Level 2 Diploma for Children’s Care, Learning and Development Traineeship if you have obtained all the necessary qualifications to progress.

Career Prospects

Early Years settings all require appropriately qualified practitioners and therefore salary scales depend on your level of qualification. You will be given information, advice and guidance in relation to your chosen future career pathway throughout the course. It is important that you understand that you will have to work hard to achieve your English, and Maths qualifications as well as Early Years to progress your career for example, as a nursery assistant, pre-school assistant, playgroup assistant, nanny or childcare worker.
