Course Overview

Designed for adults, the course will provide the opportunity to achieve an equivalence of 3 ‘A’ levels so that you can progress to higher level courses in further education or to university. Completing this course will enable you to apply for higher education courses with us or at University, in a range of subject areas which can be discussed with your course tutors. This qualification can also be helpful when seeking employment. Students without GCSE English or equivalent will be expected to undertake an Essential Skills Level 2 literacy qualification in conjunction with their Access course.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

Interview prior to admission. You must be at least 19 years at date of course commencement, and been away from full time education for one year. You must complete an application form and attend an interview.

Additional Information

The Combined Studies Access course allows you to select a pathway to take you into Higher Education or employment opportunities. Students must successfully complete Year 1 in order to proceed to Year 2. For the purpose of admission to HE study, as part of the full award of Access Diploma, a 20 credit L2 Mathematics module, which is passed at 40%, will be recognised by both Ulster University and Queen’s University Belfast as fulfilling requirements for passing GCSE Mathematics at grade C/4. Both the above Universities in Northern Ireland also accept the full Access award as providing evidence of competence in English Language, meeting the general entrance requirement for GCSE English.
