Course Overview

This course combines the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge, skills and understanding gained in the College classroom and workshops enabling you to become a fully qualified electrician on completion of your NVQ Portfolio and AM2 Assessment.Core modules: • Health and Safety and Environmental Technologies• Electrical Principles • Installation Practices and Procedures• Preparation, Planning and Overseeing Electrical Installation• Inspection, Testing, Commissioning, and certification of Electrical installation • Fault Diagnosis and Rectification * Understanding the requirements of 18th Edition regulations BS7671:2018Our students also have the opportunity to compete in Regional and UK Competitions with the aim of representing your country at World Skills. To succeed every NWRC student requires determination, a love of the subject, commitment to your studies and a good work ethic.The Awarding Body for this course is EAL.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed. Applicants without ICT @ Level 2 must commit to an additional class for this to be achieved in first year of programme. PT evening ICT classes @nwrc will be available prior to September 2023.

ROI Requirements

Leaving Certificate English and Maths at Grade O5 or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed. Applicants without ICT @ Level 2 must commit to an additional class for this to be achieved in first year of programme. PT evening ICT classes @nwrc will be available prior to September 2023.

Work Placement

As an Apprentice you will already be employed with an electrical company. We have a variety of Apprenticeship models to comply with AppNI guidelines which also support Industry.

What's Next?

Further Study

Successful candidates can progress into employment or continue to study at Level 4/5 and Degree in Electrical Engineering, Design Engineers.

Career Prospects

There are many options for the talented Electrician to work locally, nationally and internationally abroad. Electricians work within both large and small business and many electricians are self-employed and own their own business. Some Electricians progress to site or project management, consultancy work or training.Salary scales are dependent on where you work £18,000 to £42,000
