Course Overview

An auto body repair operative works in a specialist garage. The work is often divided between major and minor collision damage and your skills will always be in demand. Your day-to-day duties may include:• assessing damage and deciding how to repair it• removing damaged panels or parts for repair• smoothing out minor dents in panels• filling small holes or rusted areas with filler• making body panels and sections, and welding them into place• refinishing the repair to match surrounding areas• keeping a record of all work completed to show customers Enrichment activities may be included in the course. European Projects and the opportunity to compete in Regional and UK Competitions will be offered. Participation in competition and winning awards enhances your Curriculum Vitae and may lead to exciting employment opportunities.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

Applicants will be required to hold a minimum of a level 1 qualification, defined as 4 GCSEs including Maths (Grade E) and English (Grade E)

ROI Requirements

4 OLCs (grade 05-08 or above) to include English and Maths at (Grade 06 or above).

Work Placement

Students may have the opportunity to attend work experience which will be organised on a weekly basis or in blocks throughout the calendar year.

What's Next?

Further Study

Students without Maths and English at grade C or above will have the opportunity to complete essential skills to Level 2 as part of the programme of study. On successful completion of the Level 2 Dip or employment status/pre-entry criteria it is possible to progress onto full time employment on Apprenticeship NI programme.

Salary GuideStarter: £15,000 to £18,000Experienced: £20,000 to £25,000Highly Experienced: Up to £30,000With experience, you could become a lead fitter or technician, or move into supervisory and body-shop management positions in larger firms.You could also set up your own business and move into mobile repair.Your lecturers have all been Apprentices and worked their way from Industry to Education.
