Meet one of NWRC's most memorable acting students - Aidan McLaughlin spent four years at NWRC and has just finished his HND - with standout performances in The Birdcage and Cabaret. Today we find out more about his journey.
Age.
I'm 20 years old
Course studied at NWRC.
I studied the HNC/HND performing arts course
Previous study e.g. previous schools and qualifications.
Before I came I had just finished my GCSE'S and went straight into the level 3 performing arts course and after studying that for two years continued on to do the higher education course
Why you decide to study at NWRC?
I decided to study in the performing arts course after hearing great things about it at the open day I attended and all the great opportunities that would come out of it. The course in the span of 1 school year does about 6 or 7 shows all of which you can perform in or help out in, I thought that was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
What appealed to you about the course?
The lovely and warm welcoming nature shown by both lecturers and the students in the course.
Tell me more about the course?
I think when a lot of people look at this course they really only see the performance side of it. While that is true of course what people don't really know is it caters to all aspects of performing arts. You get to do lighting, sound, directing and a lot more to it than just performing which can allow you to truly discover what you'd like to be in this industry.
Did you have any standout moments?
While studying performing arts at NWRC for my final show I got to choreograph and perform a segment of the show Cabaret, a personal favourite, to a live audience that just loved the interactions from every performer on stage. It's a performance at NWRC I'll never forget.
Would you recommend NWRC – why?
NWRC is a brilliant place to practice and develop your craft and talent to another level while also being provided the help from experienced lecturers who currently work in the industry.
What are you doing next?
Currently, I am taking a gap year, but through the year will be making auditions for acting work and also drama schools abroad to hopefully study Musical Theatre
