Course: RSL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Music Industry (Music Production)

Meet Dearbhla, a high achiever who choose to study Music Production at NWRC as an alternative to traditional A-Levels. She loves the practical, hands-on experience she is getting both on stage and behind the scenes in the recording studios.

There was no point in studying for 3 A-Levels I was never going to use. I achieved 8 As and 2 Bs in my GCSEs. The College was perfect for me because I wanted to specialise in Music Production, which I couldn't do at school.

Age: 17

What is your previous education?

GCSEs at Lumen Christi College. Music lessons, and music experience via CADI, Hothouse and Camp Rock (youth courses that are run with the help of the Nerve Centre and TBUC).

Why did you choose to study Music at NWRC?

I didn't mesh very well with the traditional secondary school environment. I knew I wanted to study Music full-time so I didn't see the benefit in completing three or four A-Levels I wasn't going to use. So I opted for the Music Production course at NWRC instead.

Tell us about your course:

At the moment we're studying studio recording techniques, composing music using computer software, microphones, synthesisers, keyboards and DJ skills. Lots of practical stuff, enjoying most of it so far.

I would definitely recommend to other students.
