UK RequirementsLevel 2 Diploma in Engineering OR 4 GCSEs (Grade C or above) to include Maths.
ROI RequirementsLevel 2 Diploma in Engineering, OR 4 OLCs (Grade O5 or above) to include Maths OR Leaving Cert Applied – Merit.
In Previous years students were offered work placement during the summer weeks through a Sentinus programme. This was not part of the Level 3 course, but only for student benefit.
Further StudyThis course will prepare you for entry into the Engineering industry as engineering technicians, or for entry into Higher Education to undertake Degree level studies. Areas of higher study may include: Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electronics and Computing and Agricultural Engineering. These courses are available at various Universities including Ulster University, Queen’s University, Belfast, and at Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Another main route includes foundation degree programmes at the NWRC which allows access to the above courses at university (year 2 entry)
Career ProspectsThis qualification has been designed as a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners wanting to progress to employment in engineering. Learners gain relevant skills and knowledge from studying a range of content focused on electrical/electronic and mechanical disciplines, for example electrical machines and maintenance of mechanical systems. Progression could be either directly to employment in Level 3 job roles or via higher apprenticeship programmes.
