Course Overview

This course provides the ideal introduction to the Engineering industry and preparation for employment... Students take part in "real life" Project Based Learning opportunities in addition to attending a work placement.. Essential Skills in English and Maths is an integral part of the programme. All students must undertake work placement as part of the programme. The placement model will see students attending college three days per week and placement two days per week during academic year, then during summer students attend placement five days per week. Students will focus on Engineering however depending on student needs timetabling of other vocational trade areas are possible. Applicants must not already have achieved a full Level 1 (defined by the DfE as four GCSEs at grade D–G including English and maths at D–F, or equivalent). In some cases, due to barriers to engagement/learning this may be possible with DfE Careers Service approval.

No formal entry requirements for this course, however applicants must have the potential to successfully gain the qualification and complete pre-entry interview before offers issued. All students must have the potential to undertake work placement during this programme.If you are aged 16-17 years you can join Skills for Life and Work. If you have a disability you can join if you are under 22 years of age. If you have an in-care background, you can join if you are under 25 years of age. Your local Careers Office can provide full details on these and other eligibility requirements.

Further Study

Students on completion of the L1 in Construction and the required level of Essential Skills can progress to employment, L2 Traineeship or AppNI Level 2.
