Course Overview

The Level 2 OCN Woodworking Traineeship (Carpentry & Joinery) at North West Regional College provides a practical introduction to the construction industry, developing the skills, knowledge and employability needed for progression into apprenticeships or employment. Delivered in industry standard workshops, learners develop core woodworking skills including measuring, marking out, cutting, assembling and finishing timber components, alongside the safe use of hand tools, power tools and machinery. The programme also covers materials, health and safety, site practice and quality standards. Learners complete essential digital skills as part of the programme, including using digital tools to access drawings and specifications, record progress electronically, and build confidence with workplace technologies used in modern construction environments. The traineeship includes Essential Skills (Literacy and Numeracy where required) and meaningful work placement, giving learners valuable real world experience. This programme is ideal for those seeking a hands on route into Carpentry & Joinery, with progression to a Level 3 Apprenticeship, further study or employment.

I studied the OCN Level 2 Award in Bakery & Patisserie. My course was delivered in the College's kitchens. There was a sense of community and a warm relaxing atmosphere throughout. If I was to describe my experience in 3 words it would be fun, exciting and therapeutic!
