Part Time Applications are now Open
A mother of seven who enrolled on five part-time courses last year says studying has been a life-changing experience that has boosted her confidence and opened up new opportunities.
Eimear Dunleavy from Donemana left school with no qualifications, making family her focus, but when her 12-year-old started secondary school in September 2025 she decided to apply for part time study at North West Regional College. (NWRC)
She enrolled on Essential Skills Maths, English and ICT, Level 2 Business Administration and later GCSE English. The subjects were studied at NWRC campuses in Strabane and Strand Road, and with NWRC at Strabane Community Employment group.
“It was daunting,” said Eimear, “but once I got back into the swing of learning I loved it, especially studying English. I have seven children aged between 28 and 12 and they have all really supported me and are proud.
“I never thought I’d be saying this but in September I am going back to full time study after enrolling in the Access Diploma in Combined Studies, and I hope to go on to train as an English teacher.”
Asked if she had advice to give anyone contemplating a part time course Eimear said: “It’s never too late, just go for it. Studying part time has been a life-changing experience for me opening up so many new opportunities.”
NWRC has just opened applications for part time courses starting in September 2026 ranging from Professional Cookery, Spanish, Dog Grooming, Beekeeping, Cabin crew, GCSEs, Introduction to youtubing, and much more.
You can also choose from a range of part time higher education courses including Journalism, Cyber Security, hair & Beauty Management, Engineering, and more.
With hundreds of courses to choose from, local people are being encouraged to take the plunge at learning something new, try a new hobby. or upskill to help them progress on their chosen career paths.
There are huge benefits to studying for a qualification part-time. Not only can you continue to work while you study, but a part time course will allow you to juggle earning with learning, offering a viable alternative for those who can’t commit to full-time courses.
To ensure a place on popular courses starting this September, applicants are encouraged to apply early. The College also offers reduced fees for those receiving certain benefits, making education accessible to all income levels.
For those who have been out of education for some time, returning to learning may be a daunting prospect, but with its fantastic facilities and student support services, the College aims to make the learning experience as positive as possible for learners of all ages.
