Delivered in partnership with the Amelia Earhart Legacy Association, Ulster University, and St Mary’s College, Derry, this exciting initiative aims to inspire a new generation of young learners through engaging and interactive STEM experiences.
Organised by NWRC’s dedicated Careers Academy team, the event offers a dynamic, hands-on programme designed to spark curiosity and creativity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Activities on the day will include an Amelia Earhart-themed quiz, airplane design and decorating sessions, and a knockout flying competition, where teams will compete to win the prestigious Amelia Earhart STEM Cup.
Sinead Hawkins Community Education and Outreach Manager "We are delighted to see the Amelia Earhart STEM Challenge return for a second year, building on the success and enthusiasm generated in its inaugural programme. It is so important that we continue to celebrate and highlight the legacy of Amelia Earhart, particularly here in the North West where her story holds a unique and meaningful connection to our city.
At North West Regional College, we are proud to have a mural dedicated to Amelia Earhart at our Strand Road Campus, which serves as a daily reminder to our students and community of her pioneering spirit, determination and achievements in aviation.
Initiatives like this play a vital role in inspiring the next generation, and as a college we are committed to promoting and showcasing the importance of STEM subjects. By engaging young people in creative and interactive ways, we can help open up pathways into future careers and ensure they recognise the exciting opportunities that exist within science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
This fun-filled event celebrates innovation, teamwork and discovery, while introducing young people to the possibilities within STEM and aviation. It also highlights the importance of collaboration across education partners in the North West region to support skills development and future career pathways.
Primary schools across the region are warmly invited to take part and experience an inspiring day of learning and creativity.
